HapaSpace serves as a delivery partner of the TVET‑ACTIVATE programme, a national initiative funded by the Mastercard Foundation and led by WUSC and Social Enterprise Ghana. The programme aims to equip young Ghanaians with practical, certified skills in agriculture, thereby promoting employment and entrepreneurship in the sector. Between April and June 2025, HapaSpace delivered a focused training in Oil Palm Nursery Establishment in Kumasi, within the Ashanti Region.
The training spanned two months and provided 17 young participants—13 females and 4 males—with hands-on experience in establishing and managing oil palm nurseries. Through this intervention, participants acquired technical knowledge, gained field-based skills, and received certification upon completing the programme. This effort aligns with the project’s broader goal of creating sustainable job opportunities and advancing youth-led agribusiness in Ghana.
The training specifically targeted youth aged 18 to 35, with a deliberate emphasis on empowering young women in agriculture. Participants were guided to design their own mini-nurseries and are currently being supported with ongoing mentorship and business coaching to strengthen their ventures. HapaSpace’s intervention forms part of a larger national commitment to reach over 20,000 youth through 50 innovation hubs, with the aim of building a skilled and resilient workforce for the future of agriculture in Ghana.
Among the key outcomes of the training at HapaSpace were the successful certification of all 17 participants, a 70% female participation rate, the delivery of practical skills in nursery establishment, and the launch of a structured post-training mentorship and business support programme.
