User Testing and Support for the Adoption of Digital Solutions for Informal Micro-Entrepreneurs

HapaSpace supported an initiative funded by GIZ through GFA Consulting Group, aimed at strengthening digital adoption among informal micro-entrepreneurs—particularly women—in Ghana. The project, titled “User Testing and Support for the Adoption of Digital Solutions for Informal Micro-Entrepreneurs”, ran from March 2024 to August 2025. It focused on making digital tools more accessible, practical, and tailored to the real needs of users. Implementation took place across three key regions—Northern, Eastern, and Ashanti—with HapaSpace leading activities in the Ashanti Region.

As an intermediary, HapaSpace collaborated with two digital solution providers: MNotify, with its Chatbot platform, and Built, with its simplified finance tool, Built Lite. Our responsibilities included conducting user-centred research, recruiting participants, running usability tests, and analysing feedback. We also provided detailed recommendations based on insights gathered from participants, ensuring the resulting product updates were well aligned with users’ expectations. These efforts were followed by field tests to validate the effectiveness of the adapted solutions.

In the final phase of the project, validation sessions re-engaged earlier participants to test the improved platforms. Their feedback was compared with previous responses to assess enhancements in usability and user experience. This process helped ensure that the final solutions were not only technically robust but also practical and empowering for women entrepreneurs in the informal sector.

By bridging the gap between developers and end users, HapaSpace contributed to shaping inclusive digital innovations that promote confidence, independence, and sustainable business growth for women-led enterprises in Ghana.
