Rest is not a reward—it’s part of stewardship.
A lot needed to be done.
No one felt able to do it.
So, we postponed.
There was a contract that had to be closed.
A deal everyone was waiting on.
So, we asked them to postpone.
The deadlines keep coming.
The excuses remain the same.
So, we think of postponing—
and asking them to postpone too.
Yet we will gather to serve the One who does far more than we ever could—and still makes time to rest.
If the One who does more than us rests, why do we struggle to plan ours?
If the One who does more than us asks us to rest, why do we postpone—or ask others to postpone—rest? (Ref: Genesis 2:2, Mark 6:31)
So here’s the real question:
Are we postponing leave again because we think the work won’t survive without us—or because we’ve stopped believing that rest is part of stewardship?
And as leaders, are we modelling what it means to plan rest—or letting contracts, deals, bids, reports dictate our well-being and our team’s?
What date will you block today for leave—and how will you help your team do the same?
Call to Action:
Block the date now. Encourage your team to do the same. Rest isn’t a weakness—it’s wisdom. Leadership and rest belong together because healthy leaders build healthy teams.
