The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)<\/a> in Liberia<\/a> has emphasized the critical role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in driving Liberia\u2019s economic transformation, particularly under the government\u2019s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The call was made during the Final Pitch and Selection Ceremony for the Growth Accelerator Liberia Programme \u2013 Cohort V, held this week in Monrovia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the event, UNDP Liberia Resident Representative Aliou Dia underscored that the initiative goes beyond competition. \u201cThe program is not all about winning; by participating, you are investing in Liberia\u2019s future journey. There are many avenues to build something lasting and significant for Liberia. As SMEs, you are already part of the future we want, whether you win in this pitching session or not,\u201d Dia said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dia stressed that the private sector remains the backbone of the national economy, with entrepreneurs instrumental in fostering inclusive growth, job creation, and innovation. \u201cYou are the forerunners of the ARREST Agenda. Convince the jury with conviction. We have big projects on the horizon,\u201d he added, inspiring participants to think boldly and strategically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Growth Accelerator Liberia Programme, implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI)<\/a> and development partners, provides targeted technical support, mentorship, and co-financing grants to high-potential businesses. Since its inception in 2021, the program has supported over 104 MSMEs and cooperatives with more than USD 2.3 million in investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deputy Minister for Administration at MOCI, Tarnue N. Jeke, reiterated the government\u2019s commitment to strengthening private sector growth through innovation, entrepreneurship, and inclusive development. Speaking on behalf of Minister Magdalene E. Dagoseh, who is attending the TICAD 9 Summit<\/a> in Japan, Jeke described the Growth Accelerator as more than a competition. \u201cEntrepreneurship is central to Liberia\u2019s national transformation. The Growth Accelerator Liberia Programme is building a pipeline of investable Liberian businesses ready to attract financing, scale operations, and contribute to national prosperity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeke highlighted the program\u2019s focus on women- and youth-led enterprises, green value chains, and regional balance, ensuring that Liberia\u2019s economic growth is inclusive and equitable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
